Sun, Sand, and Serenity: South Florida’s Top Beaches

Florida’s expansive coastline makes it perfect for ocean-lovers looking to live near the sun and sand. With so many different spots to choose from, it may seem overwhelming, but one part of the state stands out from the rest—right here in South Florida.

In our opinion, you can find some of Florida’s best beaches on the southern coast. Next time you’re planning a beach day, here are some of the top spots to check out!

South Beach

People enjoying one of South Florida's top beaches.

Sometimes it’s hard to choose between a beach that’s buzzing with things to do or one that’s more private. In South Beach, you get the best of both worlds! With crystal-clear waters and bright sand, you’ll never want to leave South Beach’s gorgeous shores. Well, maybe you will when you discover the awesome dining and shopping options that are right nearby in Miami!

This beach is perhaps one of the most popular Miami spots for both locals and tourists. After spending the day on the shore, we recommend exploring Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, a farm-to-table favorite. Looking to shop? Hit up Fifth and Alton, a cool indoor shopping mall that has all your favorite stores.

Hallandale Beach

Umbrellas on a shoreline.

Just south of Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach is a fantastic community with gorgeous shorelines for you to explore. If you ask locals, the best way to experience this beach is on a high-rise condo right next to the shore. Take some time to soak up the sun and relax, and enjoy some of the most pristine water in South Florida.

When you’re ready for more fun, why not test your luck at one of the local casinos? Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino features both games and a horse racing venue that hosts the Florida Derby and Pegasus World Cup. The Big Easy Casino is another fun spot to check out—let’s hope the odds are in your favor!

Hollywood Beach

A beach.

If you’re looking for more than just sun and sand, you’ll find it here—one of Hollywood Beach’s coolest features is a 2.5 mile boardwalk! Stroll along the boardwalk and explore some of the coolest shops and restaurants just a stone’s throw away from the shore. Want to try your hand at some sports? The historic Garfield Street paddleball courts are open to all who want to give it a shot!

Of course, don’t forget to actually check out the beach. One of Florida’s highest-rated beaches, Hollywood Beach features both a charming town and a well-kept coastline that’s kept visitors coming back for one hundred years! With plenty of events going on year-round, you’ll want to become a Hollywood local!

Sunny Isles Beach

Coastline at one of South Florida's top beaches.

Located on a barrier island, Sunny Isles Beach allows you to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intercoastal Waterway on the west. With plenty of beach access, you could spend all day relaxing in the sun or taking a dip in the sea. However, there are plenty of other things to do, too!

The newly built Newport Fishing Pier is just off the beach and is the perfect spot to take in the water or go fishing. If you’re more into shopping, there are plenty of spots to explore nearby. The Aventura Mall is only a short drive away and has a movie theater, over 50 restaurants, and countless luxury shops for your perusal. The mall also has a free guided art tour, which showcases the mall’s private contemporary art collection.

North Miami Beach, A city at the northeast point of Miami-Dade county Florida, is proud to be the home to the new Marina Palms Luxury Residences and Marina. The project will be fully completed by mid 2017 with only now the completion of the south tower which has just topped off.  The history behind the location and the way that they incorporated it into the project really sets it apart from some of the other new construction in the area. An amazing article can be found here that gives you a detailed historical background on the area and the specific location of the project itself. Welcome to the new Miami everyone!

Demolition in Golden Isles Hallandale Beach Florida

Another home is torn down in the gated community of Golden Isles Hallandale Beach, FL 33009. The land with the structure just closed for $750,000 on November 5, 2010.  The structure was cleared/demolished in preparation for a new single family home. The cost of the demolition was approximately $32,000. There are now 7 new homes being constructed in Golden Isles, only two are spec homes.  Golden Isles is undergoing many improvements including new bridges, new guard house, new water lines and has seen much growth in the past few years.

600 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd.

The City of Hallandale recently approved plans for a five-story 380,000-square-foot retail project located at the southeast corner of Hallandale Beach Boulevard and Federal Highway (US 1).  Hallandale Square will include approx. 320,000 square feet of retail, 28,000 square feet of restaurants, a 749 seat movie theater and open atrium.  Developers estimate construction to begin late spring.  The pedestrian friendly project will focus on environmentally friendly materials and design.

Whole Foods Market Coming to Hallandale Beach Florida

Whole Foods Market will be coming soon to Hallandale Beach Florida  just around the corner from the waterfront community of “Golden Isles”.  Whole Foods will be one of the anchor tenants along with Cobb Theaters for the Hallandale Square Project which is located just north of the $1billion mixed-use project , Village at Gulfstream Park.  Currently there is an old shopping center where Tony Romas and The Knife restaurant are located along with other offices and retail.

Hallandale, Hollywood, Aventura and Golden Beach Seeing Fast Growth

Hallandale Beach Florida is changing fast and is yet another reason why I think the cities of Hallandale, Aventura, Golden Beach and Hollywood Florida along with sub-communities of Harbor Islands, Hollywood Lakes, Golden Isles, Presidential Estates, Aventura Lakes and Porto-Vita will be some of the key areas for growth and appreciation since they benefit from being “in the center of both market’s of Miami and Fort Lauderdale”.

You may access the City of Hallandale’s Current Development Activity List to find out about the major construction going on in the City.

Flying Around Golden Isles Florida

Here is an aerial photo I took during a helicopter tour of Golden Isles in Hallandale Florida. In a previous post I generated a site map of Golden Isles and think this provides a different perspective for a South Florida buyer who would like to better understand this deep water community.

Golden Isles Location

Golden Isles is just 20 minutes to ocean access via the Intracoastal Waterway and Haulover Inlet. As a boater myself I have found there are few waterfront communities that provide a vessel with ocean access, protection from high winds and storms, deep water and wide canals like this community. Also you are just minutes from Aventura and the Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport.

Are You Aware Of The Waterfront Community Of Golden Isles

Golden Isles in Hallandale Florida is a gated deep waterfront single family home community with ocean access and no fixed bridges. There are approximately 304 properties within the gates of this Broward County community with 99% of the properties on the water and only 5 homes on dry lots. A few great notable points of Golden Isles are: it’s a protected waterfront community (protection for your vessel during storms and high winds), all of the canals are wide and deep enough for about any vessel that can be moored on any of its lots, ocean access is just 15 minutes away to the south at The Haulover Inlet and 45 minutes to Port Everglades Inlet to the north.

Golden Isles is right on the Broward/Miami-Dade County line and right across from Golden Beach Florida.  As home prices in Golden Beach soar, Golden Isles has become more attractive although it might not be as exclusive or have the name recognition of Golden Beach.

As a boat owner, one of the advantages of Golden Isles is that like I said it’s on deep water allowing for larger boats unlike Golden Beach which has numerous of its waterfront properties sitting on very shallow water and does not allow for boats that draw as little as 4 feet.

In my opinion, Golden Isles is one of  South Florida’s premier deep waterfront communities whether you just want to live on the water, are a boat owner or both. Golden Isles is minutes from Aventura, Bal Harbour and the Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport, right in the center of both Market’s of Miami-Dade & Fort Lauderdale.
